We the peoples of these United Nations, to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, to reaffirm our faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of all people, to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations we owe to each other can be maintained and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom, for all of us.

For these ends, we, the Peoples, vow to practice tolerance and live together in peace, to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, to ensure that armed force shall only be used in the most extreme cases and to cooperate with each other for the promotion of the economic and social advancement.
